About
How long, exactly, have you been putting off doing what you’ve dreamed about?
Now, I hear you saying, ‘that’s none of your damned business’, and you’d be absolutely right. It’s not important that I know the answer to the question, but it’s vitally important that you do.
I asked myself this question early one morning while I was lying in the ICU at Royal Prince Alfred. After I’d had enough morphine to numb the pain in my chest, I realised that if I didn’t survive the next few hours, there was no chance of doing any of the things I had dreamed about. That morning in late 2012, it finally dawned on me that I had already lived much more of my life than I had left.
That was twelve years ago, and I was just short of 62 at the time. During my working life as a teacher and school principal, I’d been focused on the usual things: raising a family; paying off the mortgage; upgrading qualifications; meeting employer demands; providing for the needs of my family and people around me; and, deferring the things I really wanted to do.
We all know that life won’t last forever, but too often we get trapped by the mundane and allow the trivial to consume our lives as if we believe it will.
Journeys on Roads Less Travelled
I did survive. I also resigned, took to motorcycles and the road, and, persuaded my brother to come along.
Since then, we’ve ridden: around the eastern half of Australia; from Seattle to San Diego; from Los Angeles to Sturgis; around the Great Lakes; from Atlanta to Boise, Idaho; through the Canadian Rockies; and Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles. My brother, Mel, has been a massive part of this journey, and it has changed how we both look at life, how we live it, and how we see the world.
In 2020, we’d planned to ride from Los Angeles to Miami and then fly to Paris to walk the Camino from St Jean Pied de Port to Santiago de Compostela. But then along came Covid 19.
What do you do if you can’t travel and ride?
Well, you can mope around feeling sorry for yourself, or you can build a website, share the road trips you’ve taken, and plan for future road trips on roads less traveled.
Our Goal
So, our goal in developing this website is to offer you the opportunity to be part of our life on the road by sharing:
- Stories of each motorcycle road trip we’ve taken
- Tales you might want to share from road trips that you have taken
- Tips on travel, Visa requisites, accommodation, and packing for the road
- Ideas and contacts for motorcycle rental or purchase and transportation
- Checklists for motorcycle maintenance, contingencies, and emergencies
- Suggestions for rides that you might add to your ‘Bucket List’ – or to ours.
Ultimately, we hope that this website will become the ‘go to’ resource for those who take roads less traveled. . . and who aspire to.
What’s in it for You?
Well, why don’t you join us and find out . . . it’ll be a hoot, and it won’t cost you anything!
We’ll send you free Newsletters to keep you informed and link you to our community of road riders.
If the outbreak of Covid 19 had any value at all, perhaps it was to remind us that we only get one go at life and when it’s over it really is over. So, if there is something you really want to do – Just do it!
